Going into this weekend’s final round of the MTC Namibia football premiership, relegation-threatened Eleven Arrows mentor Dankie Hepundjua has promised fans and the entire local football family that his club will survive the drop come hell or high water.
Speaking to New Era Sport yesterday, an unfazed Hepundjua assured that Arrows would not depend on favours from other teams to survive the hovering relegation axe when they confront coastal rivals and equally determined Blue Waters tomorrow at the Kuisebmond Stadium.
“It’s going to be a very crucial match because we need to win in order to ensure our survival, while on the other hand Blue Waters also need a victory in order to finish within the top four – so that’s how important the game is for both teams but we are ready to do what we have do in order to survive,” said a confident Hepundjua.
Hepundjua admitted it’s very unfortunate finding themselves in such a position but was adamant they have what it takes to remain in topflight football come next season.
Arrows are currently sitting 12th on the log with 30 points, followed by Julinho Sporting with 29 points in 13th place and Touch & Go in 4th place with 28 points.
Arrows have to win tomorrow’s match in order to boost their survival chances or otherwise at least scrape a draw, which will still place them in a favourable position.
The only worry for Arrows at the moment is losing against Waters, as a possible defeat could see them kiss goodbye to premiership football.
Another scenario is Touch & Go winning their match against Benfica tomorrow, which will see them on 31 points but it will only be safe for Arrows if they collect the maximum three points against Waters or at least draw, which will leave them on level points with Touch & Go, meaning Arrows will still go through on a goal difference.
The only chance of Touch & Go surviving the drop is if they beat already relegated Benfica, which appears to be a mindboggling task for Touch & Go as Benfica also have their pride at stake.
