Musically-gifted saxophonist Suzy Eises will be sharing her musical expertise with music lovers at the upcoming Jazz Workshop at the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) on Monday
Suzy who is known for her soulful saxophone mastery will be hosting the workshop to help educate all music lovers about Jazz music. “I hope to help people understand the beauty of jazz and be part of it as they grow to appreciate the music. Jazz music is a language that is understood by those who want to connect on a deeper level with music. It’s about freedom, spirituality, peace and spontaneity. All ages are welcome to attend and learn the fundamentals of Jazz music,” she says.
Eises is a Jazz Studies student at Brigham Young University-Idaho who is studying music performance in jazz music in the United States of America (USA). She is currently taking classes online this semester after which she will return to the US for fulltime studies. Last year during her holiday the musician offered lessons on how to play a Saxophone as well as a piano. In the workshop on Monday she will not only be focussing on the history of jazz but also on improvisation and saxophone basics. “As a jazz student in the US, I would like to educate as many people as I can about Jazz and the saxophone in Namibia. If you play ANY instrument, bring it along! If you don’t play any instrument, there’s so much to learn,” Suzy commits.
The public is encouraged to take along their instruments if they would like to participate, while others who don’t play any instruments can listen and learn as she teaches how Jazz music came about. Suzy will also perform some of her tunes during the workshop. The workshop starts at 18h30 and entrance is N$10
