The Swapo Party leadership in Omaheke Region has recommended that the newly elected Nudo councillor for Aminuis Constituency, Peter Kazongominja, represent the region in the National Council.
If approved, Kazongominja would be joined by re-elected Swapo Gobabis Constituency councillor Fillipus Katamelo and newly elected Swapo Epukiro councillor Cornelius Kanguatjivi.
The Swapo Party Omaheke regional coordinator Kejamuina Mungendje yesterday confirmed the recommendation, saying the party leadership would have the final say. He said the recommendation was made during Monday’s Swapo Party extraordinary regional executive conference in Gobabis.
The regional chief also said they recommended that incoming Nudo Aminuis Constituency councillor Erwin Katjizeu serve on the Omaheke management committee.
Speaking to New Era yesterday Mungendje took the opportunity to welcome incoming opposition councillors, saying Swapo was looking forward to working with them.
He said the party was happy with the outcome of the regional council and local authority elections.
“Although we lost Otjombinde Constituency and a seat on the Otjinene Village Council the party managed to retain all the other constituencies and local authority seats,” said the Swapo Party regional chief.
“I am very confident that we will do much better next time,” he added.
Of the seven constituencies in the Omaheke Region, Swapo controls four – Epukiro, Gobabis, Kalahari and Okorukambe.
Otjinene and Aminuis are both in Nudo’s care, while Otjombinde is under an independent candidate Katjanaa Kaurivi.
In the local authority election the party won five seats in the Gobabis Municipality, three on the Witvlei Village Council, three on the Leonardville Village Council and one on Otjinene Village Council.
