Swartbooi bays for Nghikembua’s blood

Swartbooi bays for Nghikembua’s blood

Landless People’s Movement leader Bernadus Swartbooi on Saturday called on the Electoral Commission of Namibia’s chairperson Elsie Nghikembua, commissioners, and staff to resign.

This comes after the ECN experienced several difficulties at the polls including polling stations running out of ballot papers, malfunctioning verification devices and some voters not getting the opportunity to vote in the Presidential and National Assmebly elections.

These challenges led to the ECN extending the voting period from the one day on Wednesday, until Saturday, which was not received well by some people.
At a media conference in Windhoek, Swartbooi said the LPM, since the procurement period, has asked for the chairperson, the commissioners and staff to quit their jobs.

He said he expects to see the youth express themselves on being misrepresented by the voting outcome.

“We expect young people to actually stand up tall, speak up loud, to mobilise wherever you are and to say why this election doesn’t represent you,” he stated.
