Teachers to gain valuable boxing skills

Teachers to gain valuable boxing skills

In an effort to steer young people away from negative social influences, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club is set to host a coaching clinic at Iipumbu Senior Secondary School in the Oshana region.

It will take place this month on 26 April, and will see the leaders of the boxing stable educate local teachers and students on the basic principles of boxing. Additionally, the initiative aims to help children choose a solid career pathway.

“The clinic will include all boxing clubs in the region, with surrounding schools urged to send their boxers and coaches to gain valuable boxing knowledge. We will teach them how to throw punches, how to defend themselves against opponents, and other crucial boxing techniques,” said founder of Kilimanjaro Boxing Club Joseph Bernard.

He also highlighted that the coaching clinic will not only focus on basic boxing skills, but will guide participants in making informed career choices.

“A lot of young people are uncertain about what they want to be in life, and that’s why this training clinic will be of great importance to them. One day, a child may say they want to be a boxer, and the next day, they have a completely different answer,” he said

“This shows how unsure they are about their future, and this programme will help us assist them in choosing the right career path. We will also address the importance of discipline in sports. We have seen a lack of discipline among boxers, which has negatively affected their careers. Things like smoking and other harmful social habits are not good for an athlete’s career,” he added.

This is not the first time the stable has staged a coaching clinic at a school as they have held them before in various regions such as Kavango East and West, Zambezi and Oshana region.
