A Namibian playwright who aspired to be a teacher until he was involved in a tragic car accident that killed four of his friends and left him paralyzed from the neck down, has expressed concern over the manner in which teachers, once “the absolute role models” have now lost respectability.

In an interview at his house in Katutura last week, popular playwright and poet Petrus Haakskeen said it breaks his heart to see the depths to which teacher professionalism, that used to inspire and light his ambitions to become a teacher, has sunk and urged “something” to be done to restore the “noble profession” to its former glory.
