Police in the Oshana Region have arrested a man who gave his 15-year-old son permission to “toy around” with a shotgun and in the process shot and killed a nine-year-old girl.
Police reported that Fanuel Kaatuwete Shongola allegedly shot Wilma Opwaandia Shikongo using a shotgun 12GA Boito on the left upper arm.
Some of the pellets went through the chest and ribs. She died on the spot.
Erasmus Niilenge allegedly gave his son permission to get the gun and use it for shooting doves at a water well.
He was arrested for negligence. He failed “to comply with the requirements as prescribed in section 36 (A) of the Arms and Ammunition Act”, the police said in a statement yesterday.
The incident took place on Sunday.
On the same day, in the Omusati Region, 57-year-old Johannes Joseph Lungameni was arrested after he fatally assaulted 68-year-old Eusebius Thomas Kaimbi using two wooden pieces.
On Monday, police in the Oshana Region reported a case of attempted murder after Modestus Shuuveni (27) shot and injured 26-year-old David Kalola Kanyatu in both legs. All the cases are being investigated by the police.
Meanwhile, the police in the Khomas Region have appealed to relatives and family members to come forward and identify three bodies lying at the Namibian police mortuary.
In a report yesterday, the police said the body of an adult black male person was found hanging at Brakwater area on 22 July 2007. Another body of an adult black male was also taken to the Windhoek State Mortuary on 28 July 2007.
It is presumed that the deceased was hit by a motor vehicle and died in Katutura State Hospital on 30 July 2007.
Another male was bumped by a vehicle on the Western Bypass Road on 3 August 2007.
“Investigations were conducted to trace their identities and addresses but no records were found. Therefore, any person who missed a family member, relative or friend during the mentioned days is requested to contact Inspector Mbandeka at 061-209 4235”, the police bulletin said.
