Teen’s death puzzles police investigators

Home National Teen’s death puzzles police investigators

Walvis Bay

Police in Erongo Region are puzzled by the death of a 19-year-old male who allegedly shot himself on Sunday evening at Walvis Bay, shortly after he arrived from Okombahe with his grandparents.

The teenager, described as very fun-loving, was found lying in a pool of blood by his elderly grandmother after she heard a loud noise outside the house. The blood was oozing from a head wound.

But it is not clear whether the deceased, identified as Rodrickques Narib, had accidentally shot himself or had indeed committed suicide.

Deputy Commissioner Otillie Kashupuulwa said the gun belonged to an uncle of the deceased who in Okombahe gave the gun to his father, the grandfather of the deceased, to keep.

“There are still many questions around the incident, however our preliminary investigations indicate Narib spent the weekend with his grandparents and other relatives in Okombahe and only returned late Sunday evening, just shortly before he fatally wounded himself,” Kashupuulwa explained.

“Sources close to the family also said the gun was put in a toiletry bag and brought along with other baggage from Okombahe. It is hard to believe that he committed suicide, judging from how happy he was over the weekend at the farm with his family. At one point we even thought he was shot by someone else or that he accidently shot himself while he was offloading the luggage,” said a source.

“We are in shock as we lost a good child. He was the right-hand man of his grandparents and assisted around the house while staying with them. His grandfather is in a wheelchair after he suffered a stroke so he (Narib) helped them a lot around the house. We don’t know how the family will get through this,” the source further said.

Kashupuulwa also yesterday said they are currently investigating the exact cause of the fatal shooting.

Meanwhile, a man was stabbed to death by his friend on Saturday in the Narraville residential area of Walvis Bay.

The incident occurred at about 01h30 at the suspect’s house in Skipper Street.

The deceased, identified as Edwardo Strauss, 30, was stabbed in his throat by the 34-year-old suspect. He died on the spot.

The circumstances of the crime have not yet been established and police investigations continue.
