An agreement on a wage increase between Telecom Namibia, Nampost, Telecom Holdings and the Namibia’s Workers Union, (NAPWU) was last week signed in the capital.

All Telecom employees will get a five percent wage increase across the board from October 1.

The parties further agreed to increase housing allowances for certain grades with an average increase of 8,7 percent, while the parties also realised the need to increase transport allowances particularly for employees who are not on the company’s vehicle benefit scheme.

The employees will get an increase of N$400 to N$524.

Other benefits such as the switch rebate, telephone rebate, standby allowance and meal allowance would remain unchanged.

Signing the agreement, Telecom Managing Director, Frans Ndoroma, said he was hopeful that the agreement would contribute to improved staff welfare and service delivery.

“Now that the agreement was reached, it is also time for us to build trust and to recognise our shared commitment to service delivery, profitability and sustainability of the company,” said Ndoroma.

Ndoroma also commended the parties for reaching a wage agreement that demonstrates a clear testimony of maturity while at the same time it recognises business challenges and employment costs.
