By Kuvee Kangueehi WINDHOEK Top local boxer Paulus “The Hitman” Moses retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) Intercontinental Lightweight title on the eve of Independence in a one-sided fight against his stubborn Georgian challenger, Beka Sadjaia, at the Windhoek Country Club Resort. Moses was in an uncompromising mood as he fired multiple jaw-breaking jabs within the first bell. It seemed like Moses had over-underestimated him as it was visible the defending champion was craving for an early knockout. However, despite not throwing a lot of punches, the Georgian managed to stand his ground up to the eighth000 round when referee, Stanley Christodoulou, stopped the fight. Moses now boasts a professional 20 figths, 20 wins record and has hinted at his desire to go for a world title. Sadjaia had a running nose for most of the rounds as the determined Moses combined well with his left and right hooks on Sadgaia. The title fight was to be the main bout of the “WBA Double Header and Independence Celebration Boxing Bonanza” at the Windhoek Country Club and was promoted by the Nestor Tobias Sunshine and Fitness Academy. The outstanding skill of the undefeated WBA Intercontinental Lightweight boxer did not go unnoticed by the hundreds of boxing fans or by the former President of the Republic of Namibia, Sam Nujoma, who visibly enjoyed every minute of the fight. As popular as ever, the unexpected appearance of the founding president electrified the hall and the audience gave him a standing ovation when he entered. Sadjaia, who is the Georgian lightweight champion, entered the ring as the underdog. The youthful boxer only turned 20 on February 20th, and his lack of experience against The Hitman was evident during the fight. Sadjaia now has a professional record of 12 wins and two losses out of 14 fights. On the same evening tactical boxing sensation, WBA Pan-African Junior Welterweight contender, Jason “Taks” Naule, was crowned the new champion after beating South African contender, Lawrence Ngobeni. Naule won his first-ever title fight by a unanimous decision and has stretched his record to 11 fights without a single defeat. He now holds the vacant WBA Pan-African Junior Welterweight title. Naule remains unbeaten after 11 professional fights, while Ngobeni has a record of 37 wins and 11 defeats out of 48 professional fights.
