The last interview

I remember interviewing then-president Hage Geingob on the occasion of his 80th birthday at State House, and he was in the best of moods.

An interview that was scheduled for just an hour ran over for two additional hours as the president reflected on his lifetime journey.

He was particularly fond of his upbringing in the Otjozondjupa region, attending school at Augustineum in Okahandja, and later teaching at Tsumeb.

His climb to the country’s Presidency is living proof of his remarkable resilience. He has continuously shown bravery in the face of adversity.

Indeed, he was a man of unquestionable commitment, especially to his motherland. President Hage Geingob’s larger-than-life persona will be greatly missed, but we will forever celebrate his legacy. May his indomitable soul rest in
eternity.
