Superintendent Belinda Griqua of the City Police Traffic Management Unit assisted by members of the Namibian Police clamped down on taxis over the weekend, searching cars for weapons and illegal goods. The cops also executed 146 warrants of arrest on taxi drivers with outstanding warrants of arrest for traffic fines, which resulted in 58 taxi drivers being arrested and locked up. Police registered 179 new cases against drivers who ignored traffic lights, failed to produce a driver’s license and for negligent driving, while four people were detained for suspected drunken driving.
