SWAKOPMUND
Educational youth theatre once again triumphed at the coast when on Friday the 12th Assitej-Namibia youth theatre centre was formally established at Westside Secondary School at Swakopmund.
A month-long practical theatre workshop was conducted by theatre facilitator Richard Swartz with a number of learners at the school with the full blessing of the staff.
Basic acting, directing and writing produced a self-written play by the learners and culminated in a real tearjerker, a court drama titled, “The Case of Jennifer Anderson”.
This play will in September next year be published with others as the first Namibian youth theatre anthology.
Assitej-Namibia will resume its youth theatre activities with an AIDS puppet show in January and the establishment of its four last town-based centres in Windhoek, Oshakati, Rundu and Katima Mulilo.
A review on the play will appear this Friday in Art/Life.
