Thousands of litres of scarce water spill into street

Home Business Thousands of litres of scarce water spill into street

Windhoek

Amid the worse water crisis in the recorded history of Windhoek, thousands of litres of water have been running down Love Street since Tuesday this week from the building site of the new head office of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology.

Formal complaints have been lodged by businesses in the area, as well as St George’s School but by noon yesterday the water was still streaming down the street.

A call from New Era to the Ministry of Works and Transport resulted in the deputy director of general services, Ziggy Willemse, promising to rush off to do an on-site inspection and stop the spillage immediately.

Telios Namibia Consulting Engineers are the civil and structural engineers for the building while Northern Sanitary Services CC JV China State Construction is the civil engineering contractor for the project.

Representatives of the Chinese company were not available on site yesterday when New Era took pictures of the water being wasted.

Workers on site did not take lightly to the reporter taking pictures and told him he was not allowed inside the premises when he tried to locate the source of the water spillage.
