Top racing horse Right Win claimed top honours at the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA)’s first competition of the year held at Otjinene last weekend.

The race is organised and staged by the Okaumbangere Racing Club.

Right Win dominated the 1000m Nambred beginners’ category, finishing ahead of Omukueuva and Silver Sun, who both claimed second and third places respectively.

In the Nambred 1400m category, Silver Sun finished first followed by Omukueuva in second place and Diana Wonder Woman in third position. Ekuva Ramunene won the Maiden Graduation 1000m category, with Novel Dream claiming second position ahead of third placed Mambas Pride.

In the 1600m event, Ekuva Ramunene came out tops, beating second placed Novel Dream and Spanish Queen who finished in third place, while in the Open 1800m category, Visigoth emerged victorious after finishing ahead of Rockrey Beach and Nan.

In the 1000m Import Maiden Graduation division, Mighty Gemini scooped first place after overcoming stiff competition from Crucreek and Honest Illusion. In more action from the 1600m category, Crucreek again emerged victorious after beating Mighty Gemini and Speculator, who both finished in that order.

In the D division 1000m, Sunny Side reigned supreme when it finished ahead of second placed Try Again and Proffesor Junior in third. Meanwhile, in the 1600m of the same division, Icon came out tops ahead of Try Again in second and Professor Junior in third.

In more action from the 1000m events, legendary racing horse Von Trotha claimed top honours in that event, finishing ahead of second placed Freedom Fight and third placed Leeuloop. In the mega 2000m race, Freedom Fight finished first leaving second place to Leeuloop and third place to Bright Eye.

Speaking to New Era Sport, NHRA president Marthinus de Waal said he is overwhelmed with the way things unfolded at Saturday’s event, saying jockeys have also upped their game.

“Results were fair, which is what we wanted. We are just looking forward to the next event that will be held in Okahandja next month. Those that participated in last week’s event should improve on their performance for the coming event at Okahandja,” said de Waal.
