WINDHOEK – MTC Premiership title-chasing Tigers blew up their chance of catching up with table-toppers African Stars after the boys from Shandumbala could only manage a goalless draw against Citizens at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
Tigers are among the four teams breathing heavily down log leaders African Stars’ neck in an intense league title race and a victory for Bobby Samaria’s charges would have moved them within touching distance of Stars while also putting some breathing space between them and reigning champions Black Africa, who were lying third on the log as of Saturday.
In other action also at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, Orlando Pirates revived their hope and desire of lifting the coveted league trophy when they brushed aside a stubborn Touch & Go in an entertaining clash.
At the Rundu Sports Stadium on Saturday, both Julinho Sporting and United Stars made full use of home advantage, as the pair managed to collect maximum points in their bid to avoid the relegation axe come end of the season. Sporting defeated coastal outfit Blue Waters by 4-2, while United trounced Eleven Arrows by a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Still on Saturday, at the Mokati Stadium in Otjiwarongo Mighty Gunners also made good use of the cheering home crowd in their 4-2 victory over basement dwellers Benfica, who are currently staring relegation in the face. Civics beat Rebels 4-0 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium, also on Saturday.
