Windhoek

With closest league title rivals Black Africa taking a breather this weekend, MTC Premiership log leaders Tigers will be out to take advantage of their absence to further stretch their lead atop the log table.

Tigers, currently topping the log with 45 points from 19 matches played so far, are faced with the daunting task of making sure they collect maximum points against equally determined United Stars and relegation-threatened Julinho Sporting tomorrow and on Sunday at the Sam Nujoma Stadium.

Although Tigers have already confirmed their title aspirations, at least if the current showing is anything to go by, coach Brian Isaacs’ brigades are very much aware of the huge task at hand going into this weekend’s round of matches and should thus be well advised not to leave anything to chance when they confront United Stars and Sporting.

Possible victories against both bottom-table outfits would most definitely go a long way in boosting their league title chase as that would see them maintain their strong grip on the league with 51 points, but a defeat against one of the sides or even both could all but defuse their title pretensions.

On the other hand, both United Stars and Sporting are already faced with enough worries as far as their current league positions and surviving relegation is concerned, so they too would be highly prepared to throw everything they have in the direction of Tigers.
Sporting currently sit second last on the log table with 17 points, while United Stars are fourth from the bottom on 21 points – thus both teams are desperately in search of victories and could pose a serious threat to table-toppers Tigers.

Second placed and closest league title rivals Black Africa have 40 points, followed by Orlando Pirates in third place with 33 points.
