 …shock defeat for Stars

WINDHOEK – Title contenders Tigers Football Club consolidated their place at the top of the MTC Premiership log standings with a resounding 2-0 win over a much improved, but luckless Eleven Arrows in the second of a double header at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday.

A goal apiece by substitute Kaka Nekundi and trickster Benson Shilongo did the trick for Ingweinyama after a goalless first half.

Tura Magic inflicted more woes on relegation certainties Rundu Chiefs with an identical score line (2-0) in the curtain raiser to all but erase any hopes for a last ditch attempt by the bottom club to escape the dreaded relegation axe that has been hovering dangerously over them since the start of the current term. Peter Shalulile and Tebs Lombard shared the goals for Timo Tjongarero’s youthful brigade.

Across town at the Ramblers field, hosts Ramblers stretched their unbeaten run in the league to six matches when the Tunschell Street Boys shared the spoils with FNB Orlando Pirates in a 1-all stalemate.

Central defender Bruce Goseb, put the hosts ahead in the 15th minute and Rammies looked destined for a famous win until the Buccaneers pulled off a goal through Terry Uiseb (1-1).

The result dented the Ghosts’ slim hopes of wrestling the title away from bitter rivals Black Africa, who will be in action in a midweek tie against Civics.

MTC Premiership new boys United Stars caused the biggest upset in round 15 when Dawid Snewe’s unfashionable outfit stunned title chasing African Stars 1-0 at the Rundu Sports Stadium, to ease their relegation worries and in the process climbed a notch up the ladder. Ngobani Pakhati’s first half strike separated the two sides.

LHU Blue Waters came out tops in their coastal derby against PC Blue Boys – dispatching their fellow seasiders by 3 goals to 1 in an entertaining match at the Vineta Central Sports Stadium in Swakopmund on Saturday. Nigerian import Edom Dominique netted on either side of Ballack Somaeb’s brace, while Sidney Plaatjies pulled off a consolation goal for the league rookies.
