Tisan announces 2025 football and netball tournament

Tisan announces 2025 football and netball tournament

The secretary general of the Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia (Tisan), Eslon Ngeendepi, has announced plans to breathe new life into varsity sports by inviting all higher learning and vocational training institutions in Namibia to participate in the upcoming 2025 Tisan football and netball tournament.

This event aims to revive inter-institutional sports competitions and provide a platform for students to showcase their athletic talents.

“This tournament is not the official Tisan Games, as the last official Tisan Games were held in 2017. Instead, it’s a varsity tournament designed specifically to re-ignite interest in sports at higher learning institutions across Namibia,” Ngeendepi explained.

This initiative marks an exciting step towards rejuvenating university-level sports after a prolonged hiatus.

The tournament will take place from 10 to 12 April, with the possibility of date changes, and will be exclusive to Windhoek-based teams. The event is set to be hosted at the University of Namibia (Unam) main campus, offering a central location for the competition.

So far, several prominent institutions have confirmed their participation, including Unam Main Campus, River Higher Institute of Technology, International University of Management, Namibia University of Science and Technology, Welwitchia University, and Triumphant College. Ngeendepi has encouraged vocational training centres, to join in the tournament to foster a competitive spirit among students and revive interest in sports.

The registration fees for the tournament are set at N$1 000 for netball teams and N$1 500 for football teams. This modest fee aims to cover the event’s operational costs while encouraging a broad range of participants to register.

The tournament will offer enticing prize money to the top performers. In netball, the prize breakdown is N$5 000 for first place, N$2 500 for second place, and N$1 500 for third place.

For football, the top prize is N$7 000 for the winners, N$5 000 for second place, and N$3 000 for third place. These prizes aim to incentivize teams and create an exciting competitive environment.

Institutions interested in participating are urged to confirm their teams and submit their entries to Tisan via email at tisan_a@yahoo.com. The deadline for team registration and payment is 28 March.
