TISAN returns with successful kick-off tourney

TISAN returns with successful kick-off tourney

After nearly seven years of dormancy, the Tertiary Institutes Sports Association of Namibia (TISAN) made a strong comeback this past weekend, hosting its first tournament in years.

The event featured netball and football competitions, serving as a pilot ahead of the highly-anticipated full-scale TISAN Championship set to take place later this year.

In the netball division, teams from several tertiary institutions battled for top honours.

The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) fielded two teams, A and B, alongside squads from the International University of Management (IUM), Triumphant College, River Higher Institute, Welwitchia University and the University of Namibia (UNAM) Khomasdal Campus.

NUST A emerged as the champions, while IUM and NUST B secured second and third places, respectively.

Football action saw participation from IUM, Triumphant College, River Higher Institute, Welwitchia University, UNAM Khomasdal and UNAM Main Campus.

However, due to inadequate lighting, the football finals were postponed.

The rescheduled fixtures are as follows: IUM vs UNAM Khomasdal Campus.

Third place play-off: Welwitchia University vs UNAM Main Campus.

These matches will be completed during the week.

The tournament officially opened at the Van Rhyn Primary School.

Freddy Mwiya, chief administrator of the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), was in attendance.

The event was made possible through the support of the NSC, with TISAN’s interim leadership expressing heartfelt appreciation for their continued backing.
