Tjongarero appoints organising committee for youth games

In an essential step towards hosting the African Union Sport Council (AUSC) Region 5 Youth Games, the Minister of Sport, Youth and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero, appointed the local organising committee (LOC), comprising 17 members, to oversee the preparations and execution of the Youth Games.

Their term officially began on 1 November 2024, and will run until 31 October 2025 in alignment with Cabinet Decision No. 20th/12.11.24/007.

The Games will be hosted in June 2025, bringing together young athletes from Namibia, Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe to celebrate sportsmanship and unity.

The committee’s responsibilities will include managing logistics, coordinating events and ensuring that all aspects of the games run smoothly.

This critical role highlights the nation’s commitment to delivering a successful and memorable event that reflects the spirit of the AUSC Region 5’s mission.

The AUSC Region 5 is a sport governing body under the African Union Sport Council, established to promote sport development and unity across southern Africa.

The Youth Games are hosted biennially, serving as a platform for young athletes to compete at a high level while fostering regional integration and cultural exchange.

As Namibia prepares to host this prestigious event, the appointment of the LOC marks a significant milestone in ensuring the country is ready to welcome athletes, coaches and officials from across the region.
