To encourage sustainable self-employment, the Khomas Regional Council’s Tobias Hainyeko Constituency Office recently handed over materials and equipment valued at N$277 000 to local business owners.
The items received include upholstery, sewing, hair washing and welding machines; a chest freezer; a fridge; baking stoves; microwave ovens; cookware sets; an electric generator as well as chairs with tables for salons.
The items will help small business owners expand their micro-businesses and attract more customers.
Projects that received assistance include fashion design, upholstery and welding services, bakeries, butcheries, catering, fitness and health centres as well as beauty and hair salons, which create jobs in the local community.
Reading a statement on behalf of the Tobias Hainyeko constituency councillor Christopher Likuwa, councillor of the Moses //Garoeb constituency Stephanus Ndengu said local business owners operate from home and find creative ways of marketing their goods and services, thereby reducing the high number of unemployed in the constituency.
“Equally, the recommendation of the Constituency Development Committee (CDC) has recognised over 180 projects that have benefitted and received assistance from this programme since its inception,” said the councillor at the handover ceremony.
Wrapping up the proceedings, most recipients expressed deep gratitude for the invaluable assistance that helped their small businesses grow, enabling them to employ more locals.
