… Action galore in NPL Cup

WINDHOEK – All the four seeded clubs in the four groups of the 12-team round robin opening round of the Namibia Premier League Cup got their campaigns off to a good start with impressive wins against lesser opponents.

Tigers sent a stern warning to their opponents that they mean serious business this term when Bobby Samaria’s rejuvenated charges walloped Rundu Chiefs by four unanswered goals in a one-sided match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura on Saturday. Despite fielding a relatively unrecognizable starting line-up, featuring football’s forgotten man, Razzie Tjikuzu, cup holders African Stars had little trouble in waltzing past the league’s hapless yoyo-yoyo team, PC Blue Boys, dispatching the seasiders by 2 goals without reply to move a step closer to the semifinals of the season’s warm-up tourney.

FNB Orlando Pirates, under the guidance of much travelled mentor Ali ‘Mr Fix It’ Akan had the better of the proceedings in their opening match against LHU Blue Waters – emerging the 2-0 victors against the coastal outfit, while Namibian champions Black Africa also recorded an identical score against United Stars in their opening match.

In yesterday’s action African Stars and Eleven Arrows cancelled each other out in a six-goal thriller (3-3), while Tigers and Tura Magic shared the spoils in a one-all stalemate (1-1).
