REHOBOTH – Lake Oanob Resort will play host to this year’s annual Stauch and Partner Off-Road Triathlon on Sunday, March 30 after event organizers resolved to relocate the competition from its regular venue, the Friedenhau Dam.
Participants can choose between an endurance event covering a distance of 1.2km 24km 8km, sprint of 600m 12km 4km and mini 300m 6km 2km. A total of N$18 000 in prize monies will be at stake and the first 150 entries will receive a New Balance technical event T-shirt.
“This is the only off-road triathlon in Namibia and has always been a very popular event that will afford participants an additional plus point of cycling among game,” says Yvonne Brinkmann from OTB Sport, adding that they are expecting a tight race.
Favourite for the endurance is last year’s winner, Jean-Paul Burger, but he could face stiff competition from the trio of veteran triathletes Andrew Rowles, Patrick de Goede and Paddy Murphy.
To expose less experienced and younger athletes to off-road triathlon, there will be a mini event covering a distance of 300m swim, 6km bike and 2km run and would-be participants are encouraged to enter as a team.
