GROOTFONTEIN– A traditional healer from the bZambezi region, Dr Chiboto  displayed a variety of herbal and traditional medicines.

Medicines ranging from stomach pain relievers to bad fortunes were on display at the 19th annual cultural festival that just ended here on Friday. Dr Chiboto  has been practising for over 20 years  and says his  medication is trusted and very famous  in the Zambezi region, explaining that mot medicines are age-old and are even older than him. “My ancestors used these medicines to cure many diseases as well bad situations in people’s lives”

Traditionally the Kavango people who hail from this region believe in speaking to ancestors through sacrifices and special prayers by adhering to a wide range of cultural and religious prohibitions, for example food taboos and other prescriptions. Magic also plays a very important part in the daily lives of the people and Dr Chiboto explains that he sells medicine  that can even chase away bad dreams and bad fortunes. “So even if your lover has left you I have some herbs for you,” he says laughingly. Chiboto practises at his private clinic in the Zambezi region.
