By Emma Kakololo WINDHOEK Force had to be used yesterday to open the doors of Anvil College in Windhoek after TransNamib Holding (Pty) Ltd, the owner of the building, deliberately locked the premises on Tuesday to prevent Anvil staff and students from going into the building. A welding company as per instructions of a Court Order had to be called in to prise open the three sheets of metal plates placed by TransNamib on the burglar doors of Sokolic Building (Erf no 193) that houses the college. A cutting torch was used. According to the information gathered at the scene yesterday, TransNamib was dissatisfied with the renovation work being done on its premises by the lessee Anvil and that prompted the company to lock the building. Building rubble and other debris could be seen piled outside the building, probably as a result of the maintenance work, while students were waiting in anticipation to resume their studies. New Era was reliably informed that on Tuesday, March 07, 2006, the High Court called upon TransNamib to show cause why the applicant (Anvil) should not be ordered to restore the possession (first floor Sokolic Building) and why the Deputy Sheriff should not be authorised to take necessary steps to restore possession of the offices to the applicant. Anvil Acting General Manager Chansa Kalumbu, when approached for comment said the lease agreement between the two was very clear that Anvil should renovate the offices allocated to it for renting. “When we came here, there were a few things that needed to be renovated. The contract agreement states that we do the renovations ourselves. The dispute is about the renovations that we have done,” she stated. She refused to comment further, saying she still needed to be briefed on the matter and all she could confirm was that the dispute was about the renovations. TransNamib’s Chief Public Relations Officer Olivia Kanyemba-Usiku was not in her office at the time this newspaper sought her comment. New Era was told yesterday that she was the only person who could comment on the matter.
