WINDHOEK – As from April 1, Meatco producers started to receive a transport subsidy of N$66.11 per head if they have to travel through Windhoek to slaughter their animals at the Okahandja abattoir, or need to travel through Okahandja to slaughter in Windhoek.
This means producers are now receiving around N$2 379.96 as a transport subsidy for a full load of cattle delivered to Meatco. Please note that the subsidy is only payable if one of the abattoirs is closed for slaughter and the producer has to travel to the alternative abattoir to slaughter his animals. In the past Meatco paid a transport subsidy of N$57.36 per head.
