Aryster Asset Management is set to host a triathlon tournament at Von Bach Dam, open to participants of all ages, the organiser said yesterday.
The tournament is scheduled for 3 November, and is expected to attract more than 100 participants. This year’s event marks the third edition since its inception.
Speaking to this publication, Adele De La Rey, the organiser, said the main aim is to provide local triathletes with a platform to compete and prepare for major competitions.
“We have a few triathletes in the country, and they rarely get opportunities to compete. This is one of the competitions where we provide that platform. The sport is still growing in Namibia, and hosting tournaments like this is essential to its development,” she explained.
Interested individuals will be able to register once entries open.
This year’s event will follow the same routes as previous editions, even though a larger turnout is anticipated.
“We are expecting a huge turnout, with seasoned triathletes and newcomers competing,” she added.
Last year’s winner, Nathan Chase, expressed confidence ahead of the event, revealing he has been training hard in preparation.
“I am currently training for the Xterra World Championships, which is an off-road triathlon. My preparation involves a lot of hill training for both cycling and running, which suits the hilly nature of the Von Bach course. After my race, I will switch back to my road bike, but the training will remain the same, focused on hills and power training for the run. I am also swimming four times a week, as the swim is the most important part of the triathlon.
You can’t win the race in the water, but you can certainly lose it there,” he said.
