Tsjaka to host MTC Summer Cup next month

The Kopano Turf Club will next month host the much-anticipated MTC Summer Cup at the Tsjaka settlement in the Omaheke region, where the country’s top racehorses will be expected to battle it out for prestige and honour.

They will host the coming event under the stewardship of the Namibia Horse Racing Association (NHRA). The race will be one of the three last races for the year, and will take place on 4 December 2021.

According to Zuma Kavirombo, who is one of the organisers of the upcoming MTC Summer Cup, the event is anticipated to be bigger and better as the settlement of Tsjaka is home to some of the country’s renowned racehorses and top jockeys.

He said they are expecting a minimum of 120 horses from across the country, and with the race being one of the last races for this year, fierce action can be expected in all categories.

“We are expecting a lot of excitement because Tsjaka and the region of Omaheke in general are home to some of the very best horses in the country. We expect competition to be stiff and entertaining at the same time as the other guys will also be coming to cause a few surprises. We are all excited,” Kavirombo said.

With a large number of attendees expected, the organisers are working hard to ensure that all security measures will be in place on race day, especially Covid-19 adherence and genal public safety.

“Although we are expecting this event to be massive, we simply say that people should also adhere to the current rules and regulations of Covid-19. These rules will be applicable at the event, and will be enforced. We have spoken to the Gobabis municipality to also assist with enough ambulances in case of emergency,” he added. After the Tsjaka event, there will be two more races for the year at Aminius and Otjinene.
