Netball Namibia (NN) recently announced the commencement of the MTC Netball Namibia Premier League (NNPL) season with a special focus on the fight against cancer.
Twelve matches are set for the JP Ratledge stadium in Tsumeb tomorrow.
NN president Rebecca Goagoses said this year’s league takes on a special significance as it focuses on the fight against cancer.
“We’ve chosen this theme to raise awareness and vital funds for this critical cause,” she explained.
“We extend a call to action to corporates across Namibia. For every goal scored throughout the season, we’re inviting sponsorship contributions of N$10 per goal.
“All funds raised will be donated directly to the Cancer Association of Namibia, the leading organisation in our fight against cancer,” said Goagoses.
She further explained that each of the 12 participating teams have been assigned to create awareness on a specific type of cancer, which will be prominently displayed on their playing gear.
Goagoses expressed gratitude to MTC for their unwavering support. MTC sponsored netball for N$2.5 million over the next three years.
“To all the talented athletes participating in this season’s NNPL, we extend our heartfelt wishes for an exceptional season. May you play with passion, sportsmanship, and a commitment to the cause we hold dear. We look forward to an exciting and impactful NNPL season,” said Goagoses.
The 12 clubs are:
Otjozondjupa Nampol, Afrocat Lions, Namibia Correctional Service, Eastern Chiefs, Unam Jaguars, Unam Ogongo, Tigers, Mighty Gunners, Namibian Navy, Wanderers, Young Stars and Tsumeb Netball Club.
