TSUMEB – The mayor of Tsumeb, Linekeela Shetekela, praised the people of the Oshikoto Region particularly Tsumeb for coming out in large numbers to vote for Swapo Party in Friday’s elections.
Dr Hage Geingob the Swapo presidential candidate hails from the copper town.
“We are overwhelmed – the people have rallied behind our presidential candidate and came out in numbers to vote, in terms of the numbers Tsumeb is still leading followed by Omuthiywa,” he said.
Shetekela said the elections took place in an orderly and transparent manner.
“The elections were free and fair, and it was indeed peaceful, no cases of intimidation of violence was reported and that really is a very good thing, ” he informed New Era upon inquiry.
Thousands of voters turned up on Friday with some polling stations operating until the early hours of Saturday morning.
Results for Tsumeb constituency showed that Swapo Party presidential candidate and currently the president-elect Dr Hage Geingob garnered 10 171 votes followed by DTA’s McHenry Venaani with 330 and the Rally for Democracy and Progress’ Hidipo Hamutenya in third position with 286 at the copper-mining town.
Sources privy to information said the town council plans to host a victory party slated for this week Saturday in the town.
