Tuk Tuk FC win Willy Stephanus tourney

Okahandja-based outfit, Tuk Tuk FC, won the inaugural edition of the annual Willy Stephanus Open Tournament in Windhoek on Monday.

The tournament, which began on Saturday and finished Monday, was declared a resounding success by organiser Billa Kandjii.

He shared with Nampa that participants showed exceptional performance, pride and dedication to the tournament’s ideals.

Kandjii said, the organising committee has also confirmed that the competition will continue next year after the maiden edition exhibited grassroots sports’ greatness by leveraging the country’s untapped potential.

“The event was a success, with a good level of attendance from fans and associated activities that developed bridges of communication and became a vital gathering venue for people from all over the country, as well as a platform for traders to sell their products and generate income,” he said.

The tournament attracted 26 teams from around the country, with matches held at the Khomasdal Stadium and the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Technical Centre in Windhoek.

Dr Mafwe, Jungle Eleven, Island Boys and Tuk Tuk were the final four teams in the semi-finals.

Tuk Tuk won the trophy by defeating Dr Mafwe 1-0 in the semi finals, and then Island Boys 2-0 in the final.

The Okahandja boys were crowned champions, winning N$20 000, a trophy and 18 gold medals.

Island Boys took home N$10 000 as runner-up, while Dr Mafwe and Jungle Eleven each received N$5 000 as losing semi-finalists.
