WALVIS BAY – The Turkish Ambassador to Namibia, Deniz Cakar, says Turkey wants to strengthen trade relations with Namibia and is working towards doubling trade volumes between the two countries by next year.
She said although trade volumes between the two countries were low, Turkey was focussing on improving trade relations as there was a huge potential between Namibia and Turkey in terms of doing business.
Cakar was addressing the media last week Thursday afternoon on the Turkish naval ship Gediz, which called on Walvis Bay as part of the Barbaros Turkish Maritime Task Group port call to Namibia.
“Since the establishment of our embassy in 2012, trade volumes have grown between the two countries. Turkey has a very strong economy, which is the 17th biggest in the world and the 6th biggest in Europe. Therefore Namibia and Turkey can benefit from each other,” she elaborated.
She said Turkey has a long standing bond with the African continent. “We have been trading with the majority of African countries and Namibia and Turkey have a long standing relationship. I can say that since we opened our embassy, our trade volumes has doubled already. Even though we have very few Turkish business people in Namibia and vice versa, we still we want to encourage trade between the two countries,” she said.
