Two in dock today for Windhoek home robbery

Two men will appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court today in connection with the robbery at the Hocland Park home of a Chinese national last week.

The two suspects, aged 32 and 30, were arrested on Friday at the Oshivelo police checkpoint at around 03h10. They were on an Intercape bus on its way to northern Namibia.

An unlicensed pistol with the serial number removed and ammunition believed to have been used in the commissioning of the robbery, as well as N$2 000 and U$200 cash, were found in their possession. Police opened a case of illegal possession of a firearm without a licence, as well as a case of illegal possession of ammunition against the two.

Four other suspects are still at large.

The arrests were made following intelligence-driven investigations by members of the Anti-poaching unit and the Oshikoto police.

Khomas police commander Ismael Basson told the media last week that a case of robbery with aggravating circumstances was registered on 10 August at about 10h00 at Riethaan Street, Hochland Park in Windhoek after suspects held a complainant at gunpoint and took his valuables.

Six suspects came to the complainant’s house, grabbed the security guard, and rang the doorbell. One opened the door and took three laptops, four cellphones and a CCTV memory box.

Victim Sun Gong told police that he has some construction work going on at his residence, and kept the large amount of money at home to buy materials in case they got depleted. Basson added  that the total cash amount which had been withdrawn for buying construction materials was still undisclosed, but the victim recalled having US$10 000 and N$24 000. ljason@nepc.com.na
