ONGWEDIVA – An Angolan national employed as a domestic worker at Omupini village in Ohangwena region, was arrested last week for allegedly raping two toddlers.
According to Ohangwena police crime investigations coordinator Deputy Commissioner Zacharia Amakali, the children were left alone at home when the suspect came home and lured them to his bedroom.
The horrendous deed was discovered by the mother of one of the victims, who is also working in the same house as a housekeeper.
She had allegedly gone to the neighbour’s house, only to find the toddlers crying hysterically when she returned.
One of them was unable to walk.
The suspect, 18-year-old Simon Nande was denied bail when he made his first appearance at Okongo Magistrate’s Court on Friday. His case has been postponed to 2 May 2023 for further police investigation.
Meanwhile, a seven-year-old girl was also allegedly sexually molested by her uncle last Tuesday, at Elwafa village in the Ohangwena region.
It is alleged that the victim was raped on several occasions but she never reported the matter to her parents. The suspect allegedly threatened to hurt her if she reports him.
Amakali urged parents to always take care of their children and to never leave them unattended or leave them with people who are likely to cause them harm.
