Two women arrested with drugs remanded in custody

KEETMANSHOOP – Two women who were arrested after they were allegedly found in possession of drugs worth over N$100 000, were denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Christina Witbooi, 42, and 21-year-old Claire-Mart Rooi made their first court appearance before Magistrate Unchen Konjore, who postponed their case to 28 April for further police investigations and for the outcome of the legal aid applications of the accused persons.

During the court proceedings, the duo informed the court that they will apply for state lawyers through the directorate of legal aid.

Prosecutor Adrie Jo-Ann Rickerts objected to the granting of bail to the accused, saying police investigations are at an early stage and it is not in the interest of the public and administration of justice for bail to be granted.

“The accused persons are a flight risk, and we do not recommend bail to be granted at this stage,” she added.

Konjore advised the accused persons to make a formal bail application if they wish to be granted bail.

Witbooi and Rooi will stay in police custody until their next court appearance.

Namibian Police crime investigations coordinator for the //Kharas Region, deputy commissioner Nicodemus Mbango, told Nampa the two were allegedly found with nine parcels of cannabis weighing 1 865 grams, 62 full Mandrax tablets and 69 ziplocked plastic bags containing cannabis (bankies), weighing 115 grams and worth N$106 440.
