The loss of Jacob Hamutenya, a beloved member of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni group, is greatly felt by the U.S. Embassy in Namibia. Jacob was well-known for his steadfast commitment to community development, sustainable agriculture, and youth empowerment.
Hamutenya, a 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow, made a major impact on Namibia, especially as a leader at the National Youth Service and the Agro-Marketing and Trade Agency (AMTA). His dedication to promoting rural development and empowering youth was demonstrated by his work with the National Fresh Produce Business Hub in Ongwediva.
“His efforts gained global recognition, including his induction into the Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumni Association of Nigeria Legacy Conference Hall of Fame in 2024, celebrating his commitment to collective progress and transformative change. One of Jacob’s notable achievements was the Youth-led Integrated Lucerne and Orchard Project in Engela Village, which provided sustainable solutions for livestock farmers and created employment for local youth, embodying his vision for community empowerment,” said the Embassy in a post on social media today.
Hamutenya’s drive of progress was also seen in his recent completion of a senior management development qualification with his leadership and commitment to revolutionary change constantly visible.
