WINDHOEK – The father of slain nine-year-old girl Cheryl Ujaha whose dismembered and boiled body was discovered in Katutura last week is confident the suspect(s) will be caught and brought to justice.
Isak Ujaha, landed on Saturday from Leeds, United Kingdom where he lives, to join the rest of the mourners and attend the burial of his daughter.
It is past noon on Saturday and Ujaha is sitting in the company of fellow men, under the shade of trees at Cheryl’s grandparents’ home in Wanaheda.
Warmly describing the daughter as an angel, Ujaha appealed to anyone with information regarding the killers to come forth.
Last week, the police and members of the public put up a reward of over N$40 000 for information leading to the arrest. “All I am seeking is justice for my child. I am lost. I have lost a soul.”
The father shared how he planned to fly to Namibia the second day after Cheryl went missing. At the same time, Ujaha contacted his friends here to help search for his daughter. “After hearing the news of what had happened, it slowed me down. After all this, I had to stay down to put myself together again,” he narrated.
Ujaha further shared that he spoke to his daughter about two weeks prior to her senseless killing.
“We never had a conversation that long. It just happened that day. We spoke for about 45 minutes. After the conversation I had with my daughter, I was like ‘oh well, that was a daughter and father talk’,” he said.
Amongst others, the father and daughter spoke about her last examination results. “She got three As, two C’s. She got A, B, C’s. She got good marks.”
Ujaha said three days after talking to his daughter, he received a voice mail from Cheryl’s mom that his daughter wanted to speak to him. “I really didn’t get back to them. And I am getting a bit haunted by that as well,” he stated
Sadly, as schools reopened today for third semester, the seat of Cheryl, who was a Grade 3 learner at Gammams Primary School in Khomasdal, will be vacant.
