Unam Bokkies’ head coach Thuba Sibanda praised her team’s execution of their game plan after they triumphed 4-1 over Julinho Athletic Ladies on Saturday morning in the Women’s Super League match played at the Unam Stadium.
The first half saw both teams testing each other’s defences, with Unam breaking the deadlock through Muhinatjo Hanavi.
Julinho responded quickly to level the score, but the tide turned in the second half with Cherildeen van Wyk scoring to put Unam in the lead, and then two own goals by Julinho proved costly as they put the scoreline beyond them.
“It was not an easy match because Julinho is always a tough opponent.
Despite the scoreline, both teams had equal opportunities, and we are happy to walk away with the points,” Sibanda said.
Julinho head coach, Nickie Gaweseb expressed frustration, noting that his team had control of the game until two own goals let them down.
“We dominated the match, but gave it away by scoring two own goals. Unam didn’t outperform us, but we hurt ourselves with those mistakes. We’re working on recruiting a goal-poacher, as we can build up well, but in the final third, we rush things and make mistakes,” he added.
Furthermore, Unam drew 2-2 against Arrows Ladies yesterday.
Meanwhile, the match between Beauties FC and Okahandja FC that was scheduled for Friday, was postponed. In another match on Saturday, African Star, Queens emerged victorious, defeating V-Power 1-0.
Results for other matches scheduled for yesterday could not be obtained by the time of going to print.
