The Unam Football Club ended their four-match losing streak in the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premiership with a 2-0 win over Civics Football Club Friday night at the Unam Sport Field.
Nestor Iiyambo scored the game’s first goal through a penalty in the ninth minute, and Vihimisa Siririka added a goal in the 19th, giving Unam, also known as the Clever Boys by their supporters, a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Civics missed a penalty in the 50th minute as they tried their best to come back into the game, but Unam managed to control their long-passing game strategy and prevented them from finding the back of the net.
On Saturday, Khomas Nampol dispatched Okahandja United 4-0 at the same venue with goals from double scorer Frans George, Rewaldo Prins and Absalom Iimbondi, while Ongos asserted their title ambitions with a convincing 4-0 victory over Mighty Gunners in Otjiwarongo.
In Oshakati, Eeshoke Chula-Chula was back to winning ways, accounting for Young African via a 2-1 scoreline.
Last week, Chula-Chula managed to pick up a single point after losing to Julinho Sporting in Rundu and drawing with Life Fighters in Otjiwarongo.
Meanwhile, in Otjiwarongo, Tigers beat Life Fighters 3-0 with goals from Immanuel Sampofu, Dwayne Kinda and Junihno Jantze.
In Grootfontein, Orlando Pirates’ season continued to spiral on a downward trajectory as they lost 1-0 to Okakarara Young Warriors.
Edwin Axakhoeb scored the only goal of the match.
In Keetmanshoop, Sem Ndahangwapo led Blue Waters to a 1-0 victory over Young Brazilians, while African Stars overcame Julihno Sporting 3-0 in Rundu.
More Namibia Premier Football League matches were scheduled to take place yesterday, with Khomas Nampol taking on Blue Waters, Young Brazilians hosting Okahandja United, Chula-Chula facing Ongos, Mighty Gunners playing hosts to Young African, Okakarara Young Warriors playing at home against African Stars, Julihno Sporting facing Orlando Pirates, Life Fighters hosting Civics, and Unam facing Civics. – Nampa
