The University of Namibia’s Hage Geingob School of Medicine campus will open a dental clinic for the public soon.

Currently, they are only conducting clinical training for their fifth-year students on patients with selected dental cases, and will open its doors to the public soon.

Associate dean of the School of Dentistry, Dr Juvenary John Rutabanzibwa, said the clinic will be divided into two sections, namely the student training cubicle wing and the private wing. The students’ cubicle wing will be designated for the clinical training of students. In this cubicle, patients will be treated by students under the direct supervision of a lecturer or specialist.  “The private wing will be offering general and specialised dental services, which will be given by the Unam lecturers or dental specialists to the general public,” Rutabanzibwa told New Era.

A variety of services will be offered at the clinic. The range of general dentistry and specialised dentistry will include artificial teeth (fixed and removal dentures), implants, orthodontics treatment, paediatric dentistry, restorative dentistry (filling, crown and bridges), periodontics (management of gum diseases), oral and maxillofacial surgery, and laser dentistry.

The clinic belongs to Unam, but will open and cater for the dental needs of the general public. It will accommodate medical aid patients, and even those without it.
