About two decades ago, the world witnessed a great hype about a book titled ‘The Secret’. It was so highly spoken of, and many may have tried their best to make the author’s notion become their reality.
Unfortunately, just as it is with many “too-good-to-be-true” concepts, to some, it became an obsession. In its exaggeration, for some, it produced the complete opposite of the purported outcomes.
Despite such unnecessary hype, in retrospect, it also presents a certain level of absurdity. The absurdity in this whole “saga” is that the author basically made a fortune selling sand in the desert, and anyone who fell for it should by now admit they have somehow been tricked. . . Lol.
Frankly, there was no need for the world to go berserk over “the mystical secret” if the little book written almost a century ago, by John Allen titled “As a man thinketh”, had been common or mainstream knowledge. It goes to demonstrate that if humanity really wanted to transcend its vicious cycle of self-destruction, no other book should have been written after this.
Not even “The Strangest Secret” by Earl Nightingale should have seen the light of day. The only problem is that it would have been a threat to “the establishment” because people would have seen through the delusion of having rulers and claiming complete control over their destiny, individually and collectively.
To simply demonstrate the power of creating our own reality, it simply takes observing two people experiencing two opposite circumstances and listening to the words that come out of their mouths. You could even have two people from the same bad living circumstances, and it will be surprising that one may have a victim outlook while the other is hopeful.
One may see it as suffering, and the other may see it as a season that is there to prepare them for something better. If given a period of a few years, it will not be surprising that the former would be worse off, and the latter would have greatly progressed and achieved even their greatest aspirations.
Of course, not everyone may be religious, but apart from many other writings, the Bible has also simplified the notion of creating reality. It simply says “first there was a word…” or something to that effect. So, the point is that our thoughts become our words and life philosophy or set of beliefs.
What we constantly and repetitively think about and say becomes engraved in every living cell in our body. Figuratively, every living cell is a servant waiting to carry out instructions. So, every cell listens to every thought and every word we speak, and in time, makes it a reality.
Now, just like the story of “The Secret”, which is actually not even a secret, the notion of creating our reality is not something to obsess about. It is not that every situation that manifests is because of our thoughts and words. Of course, there are a great many factors that influence and affect our reality, but the point here is about shifting one’s perspective.
It’s about shifting a paradigm from which we operate. If we were computers, it would be about installing a new operating system – the one that is proactive and not reactive.
The one that is grounded in understanding the spinning of the wheel of life, faith and the works of the unseen. The one who believes not in fairytales but that every thought and word plays a role in what we call our reality, regardless of its extent.
