Generally, when we think about Easter, we are naturally inclined to think of Easter bunnies, getaways to dream holiday destinations, family time, and fun. We prepare ourselves financially and logistically to ensure a smooth, trouble-free Easter weekend. This we must do to ensure a problem-free Easter weekend and lasting pleasant memories thereafter.
As much as preparing for holidays like these may seem like an enormous task, it is actually the easiest part. It is the easiest part because everyone does so with individual consideration only. This we do even when we know that, ultimately, we will eventually share destinations, routes, hotels and so on with millions of other people. It is often without this greater insight, thought and concern for the collective that our beautiful plans may turn into our worst nightmares.
In an ideal world, one would make all individual plans with some room for others and the unexpected. We would also do so, knowing, for instance, that although they may have planned times for departure and arrival at their destination, delays may occur due to situations beyond their control or from sharing common spaces with others. Without this understanding and insight, we may eventually also be complicit in any dissatisfaction thereof. It would therefore be naïve to expect our holidays to be smooth while we sail without the right attitude and mental and emotional preparedness.
Moreover, at times like these, it is easier to imagine that the only gifts we can give are materialistic ones. For instance, a gift card, a teddy bear, or maybe the best Swiss chocolate. Of course, when we think of whom to give these gifts to, our loved ones would be the first and foremost. However, as humans, we have an opportunity to transcend that notion this easter.
Once in a while, we should remind ourselves that the best gifts are sometimes free. Therefore, as we plan our travels, share roads and spaces, we are also reminded to share these free gifts. The gifts of kindness, a smile, kindly giving way to another road user, instant forgiveness for others’ mistakes, and great concern for everyone’s safety. With these, there would be no excuse for not having a pleasant weekend, since every action we take and every choice, we make will be intentional and not influenced by AI (Alcohol Intelligence).
