Do not underestimate the value of passion in your work

Home Youth Corner Do not underestimate the value of passion in your work

We are all passionate about something; it can be cooking, sports, helping others, working with numbers, writing, doing business, studying the environment and many other.

For as long as a human being is alive, there is an activity that brings them enthusiasm and joy. Romance comes to one’s mind sometimes when they hear the word “passion”, but in this concept, by passion, I am referring to a strong feeling of joy and enthusiasm that we derive from performing a certain task. It is the driving force behind many great discoveries and great work by human kind. But why should one follow her/his passion? Well, think of yourself and think about the activity that you are least passionate about. What if someone was to pay you million of dollars to do that activity? There are many things we can do, but to do something well one has to enjoy and find pleasure from doing or performing that certain task. When we speak of success, we emphasise  hard work, dedication, righteousness, to mention a few, but we often overlook the importance of passion in our lives. Success does not come before passion, not anywhere in the world, and not even in the dictionary.  You have to do what you love first and keep getting better with time and eventually excel at it. One can only be patient enough to keep going hoping to better it when driven by passion.

If you are passionate about working with kids, take up a career path that will lead you to be involved in children’s lives such as being a teacher, a nurse, children’s doctor, children’s books author and so on. The point is, it is much easier to wake up in the morning and look forward to a day filled with enthusiasm because you are doing what you love. Do not underestimate the value of passion in your work, you can destroy unknowingly what someone has built their whole life just because you are less passionate about it.

Nowadays success is often mistaken with money. Do not get me wrong, money is part of success but it is just “a part”. We know many Hollywood celebrities who accumulated so much money but they were lonely and unhappy, some ends up in rehabilitation centres and some unfortunate ones tragically overdose on drugs. There is a void in the success column that no amount of money can fill. Success is a state of achieving what you desire, and there is no end to it. Success is anything from passing one grade to another, establishing a career, starting an organisation, carrying out successful experiments and so on. The truth is we need money to sustain ourselves, but money eventually follows when you are true to yourself and what you love. To have a lifelong career, to wake up with a smile on your face, to look forward to a new day, and to avoid stress and burnout, try following what you are passionate about. If you want proof, study the biographies of people you consider successful.
