Unearthing children TV writers

Unearthing children TV writers

LearnOnOne and the Namibia University of Science and Technology are searching for Namibia’s next generation of children’s television (TV) writers to grab the opportunity and take part in a full-time, three-week scholarship in scriptwriting for children’s TV.

This initiative aims to discover and nurture the next generation of writers who can shape the future of Namibian children’s programming.

“Children’s TV is more than just entertainment. It’s a powerful tool for shaping young minds and fostering a sense of identity. We believe Namibia has a wealth of untapped storytelling talent,” stated LearnOnOne brand manager Rukee Kaakunga. LearnOnOne is a platform that offers valuable educational and developmental opportunities for Namibian youth, nurturing creativity and innovation through engaging television broadcasts and online streaming. This scholarship is designed to provide aspiring writers with the skills and resources they need to bring their visions to life.

Kaakunga added that the scholarship is a call to passionate individuals who can create engaging and culturally-relevant stories that resonate with young Namibian audiences.

“The three-week programme at Nust’s Department of Digital Arts and Animation will delve into the intricacies of scriptwriting, for children’s TV, covering character development, plot construction, dialogue writing, and understanding the unique needs of young audiences”. Jordaania Andima, head of the digital arts and animation department at Nust, said the institution is committed to fostering creativity and innovation.

The programme aligns perfectly with the mission to empower Namibian talent.

Interested candidates are invited to submit a 500-word essay, detailing their aspirations, and how the scholarship would be a life-changing opportunity. Essays must be uploaded to learnonone.org/competition before the deadline of 14 April 2025.
