WINDHOEK – Black Africa came from a goal behind to see off a stubborn 10-man Eleven Arrows 2-1, as the reigning Namibian champions laboured through another lukewarm showing in as many MTC Premiership outings in the current term.
The hosts took the lead through Zimbabwean import Webster Muronga’s well struck spot kick and held on until after the changeover when BA’s mentor Brian Isaacs dispatched more bodies upfront in search of some face-saving goals. It eventually arrived through an unlikely source, Ananias Gebhardt and burly Capetonian Riaan Eugene, saved the visitors from an embarrassing defeat when the pair scored a goal apiece for the defending champions, capitalizing on the 2nd half dismissal of Arrows’ hard as nails fullback, Thomas Thomas. The Gemengde-based outfit looks set to cement their place at the top of the MTC Premiership log standings en route to an unprecedented consecutive fourth league title, but the defending champions will have a mount Kilimanjaro to scale if they are to shake off some unwanted attention from fellow title contenders Tigers.
Tigers kept their title aspirations intact with a 3-1 thrashing of luckless Ramblers at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Friday evening. Leading marksman Absalom Imbondi, enriched his goal scoring resume with a brace, while free scoring midfielder Petrus Naftalie put the final nail in Rammies’ coffin with goal number three while pocket size winger Donovan Swarts netted a goal for the much improved Tunschell Street Boys. United Stars’ fairytale run was brought to a premature halt when the Rundu outfit crashed 2-0 against the rampant Tura Magic in the first of a double header at the Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday. Ghanaian attacking midfielder Kalusha Al-Hassan and Peter Shalulile shared the goal scoring responsibility for Timo Tjongarero’s youthful outfit. In the main match, wasteful FNB Orlando Pirates scraped a sloppy 1-0 win over hapless Rundu Chiefs with a pedestrian display with Terry Uiseb netting the only goal of the match.
In yesterday’s action second half goals by Erwin Afrikaner and Nico Narib steered Civics to a 2-nil victory over PC Blue Boys, while African Stars and LHU Blue Waters cancelled each other out in a dull goalless draw
