WINDHOEK

United Netball Club opened their assault in this season’s Khomas Netball Regional Division One League campaign with a fine win over an ageing Tigers outfit at the Khomasdal Sports Complex netball courts, in Windhoek on Saturday.

The Olympians took a slender one goal lead (9-8) in the first quarter with veteran goal poacher Valery Pack and her partner Jolanda Botha taking turns to poke balls through the loop with the precision of a seasoned butcher.

United increased their tally to 19 – 15 at the end of the second quarter and stepped up a gear in the third quarter – rattling the loop on eight occasions as opposed to Tigers’ seven goals (27-21), before the Olympia-based team finally ran out well deserved victors with a scoreline of 34 goals to 28.

The victory shot United to the top of the summit – courtesy of undisputed champions Black Africa’s inactivity last weekend.

Meanwhile, the other division one match that was to have taken place between Civics and Wanderers at the same venue failed to materialize after some heavy protests by the league’s organizers over the inclusion of several players in the Civilians lineup who are also plying their trade with other teams campaigning in the Social League for companies and the Rural Development knockout tournaments.

In other action – Unam walloped MTC in a division three match – dispatching the communication providers by 12 goals to six in an action-packed match that saw the students outsmarting their opponents in most aspects of an otherwise entertaining encounter.

Kalahari Sands saw off a stubborn Mont Fella by 22 goals to 17, and Bethlehem United scraped to a nail-biting 12-11 win against NDTC in the final match of the regional third tier division on Saturday.
