The Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade (MIT) has informed the public that all relevant liquor licences must be renewed and licence fees must be paid on or before 31 March 2021 as stipulated in section 21 and section 22 of the Liquor Act (1998).
A statement from MIT minister, Lucia Iipumbu, noted that failure to comply with this directive will render the relevant licences terminated and new licences will need to be applied for in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Act.
“All applications for renewals must be launched with the magistrate for the district in which the licensed premises or the premises in respect of which an application in terms of this Act is made, are situated,” Iipumbu explained.
All liquor licence holders and all relevant stakeholders have therefore been informed that the trade ministry has not issued any suspension of any provisions of the Liquor Act and or any related regulations under any sections of the Act insofar as they relate to the extension of renewal of liquor licences and or any reduction or waiver of prescribed licence fees of any kind of liquor licences.
