Uukwangula headman Ithete buried

Uukwangula headman Ithete buried

UUKWANGULA – Tarah Iithete, the long-serving headman of Uukwangula village in the Oshana region, was laid to rest on Saturday at Oniimwandi.

He was well-known for his passion for soccer and community development.

Ithete, who went affectionately by the moniker ‘Choice’, died at the age of 59 after a short illness.

Remembering the late headman, Oukwambi Traditional Authority chief Ndilimani Herman Iipumbu said Iithete served as a senior traditional councillor for Uukwangula village for 31 years after taking over from his late father.

Iipumbu described Iithete as a good leader and a “people’s person”.

He always prioritised the well-being of his community.

Jona Khama Kasheeta, a close friend who worked closely with him, described him as a straightforward man, who addressed matters without delay. “He was, indeed, a peaceful man, but also courageous. If he were onto something, he would get it done,” he said.

He added that Iithete was a good friend to many in the community.

Iithete played a key role in promoting football, and uniting the community through sport. “His dedication to the people made him a respected figure in Uukwangula and beyond,” he added.

Fellow senior leader Lazalus California Emvula described him as a courageous leader, who was ever ready to serve his community.

“He was a very peaceful man, with a pure heart. He used to laugh with everyone. We lost a golden man,” he said. Community members remembered him as a leader who not only guided them, but also brought them together through his love for football and development initiatives.

They said his contributions will not be forgotten.

Hundreds of people attended his funeral to honour his legacy and pay their final respects.

Iithete is survived by his wife, mother and eight children.
