Van Jaarsveld returns to action after injury

Namibian veteran hooker Torsten van Jaarsveld, who plays professionally for French Pro D2 side Aviron Bayonnais, has hit the ground running after fully recovering from a fractured nose and orbital floor.

Van Jaarsveld fractured his nose and orbital floor during a league match in mid-January, and has since been on the sidelines, recovering from the injuries that robbed him of valuable game time.

But this week, the club updated on its social media platform that the 34-year-old Namibian hooker has recovered, and will soon be turning up for the club. He returns to action along with fellow teammates Afa Amosa, Shaun Venter, Denis Marchois and Ugo, among others, who were also sidelined by injuries weeks ago.

Van Jaarsveld joined French Pro D2 side Bayonne prior to the 2018–19 season, and went on to win the French Pro D2 title after a full season.

Another Namibian international, Johan Deysel, has also fully recovered from an assortment of injuries and has since applied to return to Bayonnais for some game time.

Bayonnais used to compete in the top tier of the French league system, known as the Top 14 competition. In the 2015/16 Rugby Pro D2 season, they were promoted after finishing second and winning the playoff final against Aurillac.

In the 2016/17 season, they finished in last place, and were relegated back to Pro D2 for the 2017/18 season.
